1).“Have a Foundation”. Sometimes
when we decide to embark on a journey to better ourselves, we feel like we can
do everything on our own. We want to be revolutionary and change the world with
all the newfound knowledge and self-awareness we’ve gained. However, we have to
remember that we will go farther when we have a solid support system. This
doesn’t mean just having a group of motivators, but also being that
motivator for yourself. Having confidence in your skills and ability to learn
will get you farther than you think.
2). “Never allow your circumstances to become
your situation”. How often do we let our minds to get clouded by a
day’s worth of “little things”, forcing us to end the day with a bad mood?
Just remember that nothing can bring you
down unless you allow it to. My mom always told me “never let anything steal
your energy” and I cannot stress that enough. I’m usually known for having a
extra dash of spunk, and I keep that by reminding myself that I should not
stress over things that aren’t perfect, because I am not perfect. And my imperfections help shape me!
3). “Let go from any remorse from your past and
realize it has made a way for your future”. Let go and let God.
I can’t tell you how long I have worked to make my family proud. For years I
ran myself into the ground working for their approval and living by their
guidelines. It always bothers me when I
think about the time I wasted; for some time I even felt bad for feeling
bad! But now I realize that I now have an amazing insight about people and
their true intentions. Let go of the past and allow yourself to grow!
4). “Realize you were once a princess and it
takes time to build your Queendom”… I once received a card that
said “Every flower that ever bloomed had to go through a lot of dirt to get
there“…just remember that.
5). “Never give up on your castle” Your castle may be far off in
the distance. It may not be as big or expensive as someone else’s, may not have
the finest furnishings and may not be what anyone expects you to live in but
guess what? It’s yours. With that being said, live your life with the
sole intention of impressing yourself and no one else. Don’t be selfish, but
take care of you!
6). “Learn what it means to be you” and
embrace it like nothing else! I’m anxious, neurotic, weird, and sometimes
extremely sarcastic but it helps balance out the great things about my
personality. Be proud of your mistakes and flaws and your ability to identify
them. Take the time to explore your passion and figure out what makes you tick;
what keeps you going. After you figure yourself out, nothing (and no one) can
stop you.
7). “Leave your legacy” I
know I told you to be self-aware and to do what makes you happy first, but no
Queen has ever had a great reign when she was the most hated woman on the
block. There’s nothing wrong with being passionate, driven and all about your
business but being cooperative and well-liked are great traits to have as
well. Professionally, being someone
people love to be around can help you get very far in your field. Not to brag but I have been
told multiple times that my type of personality is a key ingredient in a
successful workplace. It’s important to learn how to mix impeccable work ethic
with an amicable demeanor. Socially, when you move on to a new stage in your
life, it’s never a good idea to burn bridges (no matter how small). Just work
on leaving a positive vibe with people; work hard and wow people with your
tenacity and being able to handle business with a smile. And never forget the
importance of giving back or being a resource to those that look up to you. You
may need them one day.
Glad I had the chance to share my two cents. Hopefully,
it makes a difference to you.
Good luck building, everybody!
